I became interested in Christian Science through another member of my family, and after about three months of earnestly reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I found that I was completely healed of colitis, a condition that had troubled me for many years. Later, when I was tempted to go on a diet to lose weight, I remembered this experience. I had proved that food had no power either to heal or to harm me; therefore I refused to give it power now, and by holding to the truth, I found the excess weight disappearing normally and naturally.
Several months after my first healing, a baby son was born to us. A physician had told me that I could not give birth to the baby normally and would probably have to have a Caesarean section. When I explained that I was a student of Christian Science and did not wish to have drugs or be put on a special diet before the baby was born, the doctor would not assume the responsibility. A practitioner who was helping me recommended a doctor who often attended mothers whose infants were born under Christian Science treatment. The child was born at home with no difficulties arising. Two years later twins were also born at home and under similar harmonious conditions.
When our son was about a year old, he broke out with a painful rash. Although we had the help of a practitioner, the rash grew worse. Because the baby seemed to be so uncomfortable, I used a mild salve on the skin with the hope that it would relieve the soreness. When I mentioned this to the practitioner, she said very forcibly: "What are you seeing? Are you seeing man as God made him? Surely He doesn't know anything about infection or impurity."
