I should like to express gratitude to God for Christian Science and for the freedom that it has brought into my life. As a young boy I attended a Christian Science Sunday School occasionally, but it was not until 1950 that I really became interested in Christian Science and started going to church. At that time I stopped taking medicine, including almost daily doses of aspirin.
One evening in 1952 it came to me that I did not like being a slave to beer. Instantly I was freed from all appetite for this drink, an appetite which had claimed power over me for twenty-three years.
In 1953 a pain developed in my chest and also in my right shoulder, which had been severely wrenched some years previously. For about eight months there was a continuous, nagging pain. I tried working for myself but did not make any progress.
