My mother became interested in Christian Science when I was a little girl, and f received the blessings of her knowledge and utilization of this truth. I am afraid I just used Christian Science to help me out of difficulties without any thought of becoming a sincere student.
Some years later, after I was married and had four small sons to care for, my mother passed on; I then found it was up to me to do my own mental work in order to solve the problems of a famify. I had very little understanding of Christian Science, but of one thing I was sure, I knew it was the truth; and I knew it could and did heal sickness, lack, trouble of any kind, and I knew I must cling to it.
Many were the healings we had in our family during those years—healings of so-called children's diseases, measles, chicken pox, scarlet fever, impetigo, diphtheria, colds, and fevers—most were very quickly overcome and with none of the predicted aftereffects and often without the help of a Christian Science practitioner. I would get out my Bible and Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, and I would read and study the Lesson-Sermons from the Christian Science Quarterly, believing with all my heart. In most cases the healings would be so quick and thorough that I would be amazed and overjoyed.
