My gratitude is unbounded for the numerous...

From the June 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My gratitude is unbounded for the numerous healings and blessings which have been mine over a period of many years through the ministrations of God's law, Christian Science.

When this Science presented itself to my thought a number of years ago I was living in Europe, and I knew nothing whatever of it. However, as I earnestly prayed for an understanding of God, the words "Christian Science" came to my thought over and over again. But because I had been imbued from childhood with the teachings of an orthodox religion and had heard denunciations of Christian Science from the pulpit, I still clung to my early religious beliefs and continued attending the only church I knew, vainly hoping to gain the peace and understanding I so eagerly sought.

At a period when I was struggling with pernicious anemia and an internal goiter, neither of which had yielded to the persistent use of medication and the best efforts of medical specialists over a period of years, I turned fervently to prayer. But even as I realized that I was beyond human help, I found to my despair that faithful adherence to my religious beliefs availed nothing. That moment was one of deepest anguish and blackest desolation.
