THE DESIDERATUM: INSTANTANEOUS HEALING

From the June 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christianly scientific healing is the result of an affirmed and acknowledged understanding that the real man is the perfect image and likeness of God. Christian Science healing asserts nowness, positiveness, completeness. It is the reality of being, manifested in what appears as human experience.

In our prayerful work we must do more than admit the possibility of future accomplishment. We must even progress further than anticipation of ultimate complete healing. We must expect to heal instantaneously. We must be thoroughly convinced of the certainty of instantaneous healing by understanding the present and eternal perfection of God and of His idea, man. This understanding is not the result of mere intellectual study. It is the unfoldment of the reality of being and of true existence gained through steadfastly and humbly working, watching, and praying.

Christ Jesus demonstrated this scientific understanding by his instantaneous works of healing. We must begin now to follow his mighty example. Instantaneous healing is not the culmination of spasmodic prayer and study. In answer to the disciples' question concerning their inability to heal in a certain instance, Jesus said (Mark 9:29), "This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting."
