Christian Science was recommended to me when my fourth child was a few days old. I was suffering from extreme physical weakness and self-pity. Since childhood I had experienced attacks of tonsillitis each winter and had come to expect and fear them. The nurse attending me at the birth recommended that I look into Christian Science, as she herself had begun the study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and was receiving much benefit from it.
I asked for the help of a Christian Science practitioner, and there was improvement right away. After the second treatment the weakness had given place to strength, and the self-pity to a sense of well being such as I had never experienced before. I knew that Christian Science was the answer to my prayers for a religion that followed Jesus' teachings both in word and in deed. I then started an earnest study of Science, applying its teachings as I understood them to every situation that confronted me, and I began to understand the meaning of Jesus' words to Nicodemus (John 3:3), "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
However, the fear of colds and throat disorders was evidently not wholly overcome, because I later had a severe attack of tonsillitis. Help was again sought of a practitioner, and the trouble disappeared within a few days instead of lasting a few weeks as it had done under medical treatment. The fear of the attacks also ceased at that time. Thereafter when the first symptoms of the disorder appeared, I was able to meet and master them through the increased understanding I had gained of God's allness and of man in His image and likeness. The attacks finally ceased altogether.
