LOVE'S GLORIOUS BUILDING

From the January 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"THREE things," wrote Goethe, "are to be looked to in a building: that it stand on the right spot; that it be securely founded that it be successfully executed." We are all builders after a fashion. Through the teachings of Christian Science, we learn that we actually live in a mental realm, not in a physical one. God, divine Love, is the great architect, who has designed His universe of spiritual ideas and established each idea where it belongs in the imperishable glory of immortality. Our building work is a recognition and demonstration of this fact.

The right spot for our building is a consciousness imbued with the understanding of God as infinite, divine Love. Our secure foundation is the Rock, Christ, and strict obedience to the law and the gospel of Love. Our successful execution consists in daily exemplification of the spirit of Christ's charity in love and good works.

Christ Jesus was a master builder. On the foundation of Christ-healing he built safely for all time. He proved gloriously that Christ, the true idea of God, is an ever present present power to direct, to heal, and to save. His words—his expression of spiritual thoughts—still glow with inspired meaning. And they are inseparable from his deeds. The glory of his lifework was the fullness of healing love, which he manifested.
