THE wilderness journey of the Israelites illustrates the progress of Christianity through centuries of struggle as it has prepared humanity to enter the Promised Land of infinite peace. This land is the spiritual state revealed by Christian Science as the only true state of man.
When the Israelites, fleeing from Egypt, reached the sea, and Moses heard the prediction (Ex. 14:3), "Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They are entangled in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in," there was nothing for Moses to do but to say to the people, "Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord." God fought their battle; the sea divided, and they were free to go forward. The enemy was destroyed. Faith in God had prevailed.
How often has materialism claimed to entangle those struggling to liberate themselves from the mortal sense of life! But God is always with those who trust Him, and the seas of mortal belief part for the passage to spiritual freedom.
