A number of years ago, when a loved one passed on, I turned to Christian Science and found a great sense of peace and love. A very dear friend introduced me to this wonderful and practical religion. She emphasized the importance of the daily study of the Bible Lessons, which are found in the Quarterly.
I had regularly attended an orthodox church but had never actually studied the Bible. In one of the first lessons I studied, I gained a healing of a sense of separation and grief. Paul's words were a comfort, "I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Rom. 8:38,39).
These verses from the Bible were just the consolation I needed at that particular time. The "Daily Prayer" from the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy was very helpful too. It reads (Art. VIII, Sect. 4), '"Thy kingdom come;' let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in me, and rule out of me all sin; and may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind, and govern them!" My consciousness became so filled with love for my fellowmen that I found myself happy in doing little acts of kindness for others, thereby forgetting self.
