Testimonies of Healing

My mother became interested in Christian Science...

From the May 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My mother became interested in Christian Science when I was two years old. She continued her study, at that time in the face of great opposition, and I should be remiss if I did not express my gratitude for her patience and perseverance. I attended the Sunday School from the time I was two until I was twenty, and I am sure that the many spiritual truths I learned there have helped me to have a harmonious, healthy, and happy life in the ensuing years. As Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 369), "The prophylactic and therapeutic (that is, the preventive and curative) arts belong emphatically to Christian Science, as would be readily seen, if psychology, or the Science of Spirit, God, was understood."

My family and I have had a very harmonious experience, and I feel that this is because we have consistently put God first in our lives—every day and at all times— and have not waited for a problem to force us to do so. Sunday School, church services, lectures, and church membership meetings are seldom missed. We have had few problems, and these have been quickly solved and lessons have been learned from each one.

At one time our young son was quite feverish. I prayed to understand man's actual present perfection as the spiritual child of God. I knew that as God's reflection, man can have nothing discordant to get rid of, nor is he in need of improvement or change. I knew that he always expresses perfection and that all I had to do was, metaphorically speaking, to open my eyes and see this.
