For many years Christian Science has met all my needs and those of my family. Because of the blessings I have received as a result of an absolute reliance upon God, I know the importance of being alert to recognize erroneous thinking and to replace quickly with declarations of the truth of God's allness the suggestion of another power. I have solved many problems by turning thought away from the evidence of the material senses and acknowledging God as the only creator and man as His spiritual idea. The following is a proof of the effectiveness of such prayer.
While preparing dinner one day, I inadvertently caused an explosion while lighting the gas oven. The flame burned my face and eyes, and the shock and pain were intense. I was alone and realized that I must turn immediately to God for strength and freedom, as we learn to turn to Him in Christian Science. These words came to me from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 503): "Divine Science, the Word of God, saith to the darkness upon the face of error, 'God is All-in-all,' and the light of ever-present Love illumines the universe."
After turning off the gas, I found my copy of Science and Health. But I was unable to see to read; so I just prayed that the healing truth I needed would be revealed, confident that God was meeting my human need, the need of understanding Him and man's oneness, or unity, with Him.
