Several summers ago, while working in a lumberyard, I was unloading some heavy pieces of scrap lumber. In an effort to lift one from the truck I lost my balance, and, still clinging to the lumber, I fell backward off the truck. The only thought I had was that God, ever-present Love, was all around me. Somehow I made a half-turn before hitting the ground, and I broke the fall by stretching out my hands. With some assistance I was able to pick myself up. I had twisted my ankle, and I was helped to the office. Medical help was suggested, but I requested to be left alone for a while, assuring my fellow workers that all was well.
I held to the scientific truth in Christian Science that man has never fallen from his estate as God's beloved child and is forever upright and free. Also "the scientific statement of being" from the textbook by Mrs. Eddy helped me greatly to confirm the allness of God, good, and the nothingness of matter or material beliefs. Part of the statement reads (p. 468), "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all."
During my lunch hour I was able to drive to the downtown Christian Science Reading Room. I spent most of my lunchtime studying and praying. To close my treatment with a hymn of praise, I opened the Christian Science Hymnal. It fell open to Hymn No. 189, which reads in part,
