Christian Science is much more than just a religion; it is the way of Life. My wife and I were blessed with Christian Science Sunday School training, and our five children have learned to rely on Science for their every need. It was only natural for us, therefore, to turn to God during a most trying time. Our youngest daughter was struck down by a car in front of our house, and the ensuing experience led not only to healing but to unprecedented spiritual growth and to gratitude for Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.
The mishap occurred at a time when many neighbors were gathered in their yards. The child was carried into the house by her mother. The grave but loving concern of our neighbors was evident; although they expected the worst, I am certain their prayers were with us. As I dashed into the house I instructed our other children to hold to the fact that man is the image and likeness of God, Life. I also told them we must not be afraid; however, it would be misleading to intimate that we were undisturbed and fearless.
The first two thoughts I shared with my wife were: God is Life, and, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I reread a familiar statement on page 470, "Man is the expression of God's being." This statement gave me new insight into man as the spiritual idea of God, reflecting the very being of God, which includes everlasting life, perfection, and harmony.
