YOUTH LOOKS AHEAD

From the August 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As young people mature and begin to plan for the future, it is natural that they want to achieve success in life and enjoy a happy marriage. At least this is the aim of most people. Some may bend every human effort to reach their goals through human will and questionable means; and if they attain something on this basis, often they are not truly satisfied. Others who are wiser will utilize the time-tested and successfully proven way revealed in the Bible and in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.

Christian Science upholds a standard of life based on spiritual fundamentals and values. It honors God as the source of true being, as the foundation of right thinking and acting. It inculcates in one a genuine desire to obey the Ten Commandments and the teachings in the Sermon on the Mount. This standard of living is indeed high; but even in the midst of worldliness it is not impossible, unattainable, or impractical. Actually and provably it holds the greatest rewards.

The real satisfactions of life are within the reach of each sincere person, provided he or she approaches them from the right standpoint. A man of wisdom put it in a cogent way when he said, "I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread" (Ps. 37: 25). It is comforting to know that there is a way whereby one is not forsaken in life, left without friends or peace of mind, and is not destitute or reduced to poverty. There is instead peace, progress, and abundance. The achievement of this desirable goal in life is demonstrated through righteousness.
