Lord, give me words of gentleness
That those within my reach
May realize that I express
Thy nature in my speech.
Invest my hands with gentleness
That those who need my touch
May feel it carries Thy caress
And says Thou lovest much.
Inspire my tones with gentleness
That with my singing voice
I may help those who feel distress
To know Thee and rejoice.
And fill my heart with gentleness
To soften thoughts in me
That word and deed and song may bless
Those needing ministry.
