Christian Science has turned my...

From the October 1965 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science has turned my thinking away from the false, material sense of man to a better realization of his spiritual oneness, or unity, with God as His reflection.

After serving in the Army for a short time at the end of the Second World War, I cast about for over a year and a half with no sense of aim in life and seemingly with no desire for any direction. As I look back at this situation, it is clearer to me now that this state of thought is what our Leader writes about in Science and Health, where she says (p. 102), "So secret are the present methods of animal magnetism that they ensnare the age into indolence, and produce the very apathy on the subject which the criminal desires."

On the suggestion of my parents, I visited a practitioner, who immediately rejected the erroneous picture and replaced it with the true picture of man. His words started a change in my thinking which resulted in a gradual loss of latent fear; and I had a desire to go to college, which up to that time had been far from my thought. One of the citations which this practitioner recommended I study is on page 492 of the textbook. It reads, "For right reasoning there should be but one fact before the thought, namely, spiritual existence."
