It was when I found myself in a desperate situation following nervous breakdowns and insomnia, which resulted in physical and mental suffering, and when all material means had failed that I was guided to avail myself of the wonderful healing power of God, revealed by Christian Science.
The first steps cost me much effort. The error in which mortals find themselves as a result of their false material beliefs, their ignorance of God and of man's relationship to the Father, can be so great that it sometimes seems insurmountable. However, our revered Leader gives us this assurance on page 224 of Science and Health: "The power of God brings deliverance to the captive. No power can withstand divine Love."
I trusted in this assurance as well as in the numerous Bible promises; little by little I gained confidence in God and in my true individuality as a child of God. A long struggle took place in my consciousness with animal magnetism, which in widely different forms tried to halt my progress.
