I feel that in view of all the blessings that have come to me and my family in the past twenty years, I am long overdue in expressing my gratitude to God for Christian Science and its Discoverer and Founder, Mrs. Eddy. Indeed we have found as have so very many others that, when properly applied, the truth given in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, has never failed.
Our family was once returning from a trip and stopped at a city in another state to pick up a relative who was to go home with us as a house guest. On meeting this guest I took her two traveling bags and placed them on the luggage carrier on top of our car. I thought that the weight of the bags would hold them there, so I did not tie them down.
After traveling some one hundred and fifty miles, we discovered that both bags were gone. They had been blown off the car by the force of the wind.
Right there at the side of the highway where we had stopped, my wife and I sat for a few moments declaring the allness of the one Mind, God, and the integrity of His image and likeness, man. Since our guest was not a Christian Scientist, we took certain human footsteps which would be reassuring to her. Then we continued on our way, and after two more hours of travel my wife and I gained peace in our hearts and the assurance of Mind's direction.
We reached our home in due time; and as we went through it from the back entrance toward the front door of the house, there was a knock on the front door. There stood three fine young men, who announced they had two bags they had picked up on the highway. They were sure they belonged to us. They had found an address in one of the bags in a notebook.
Several years ago, our daughter, who at that time was barely two years old, was bitten five times on the face by a dog. I took the child in my arms and went to our bedroom. There my wife and I worked to know and to realize, regardless of the material evidence, the truth of a citation from Science and Health which reads (p. 463), "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive."
In a short time the bleeding stopped and the child became quiet; but because of the swelling and discoloration that appeared, we became somewhat fearful and called a Christian Science practitioner in a distant state. In a little while all pain was gone, and the swelling was beginning to recede. Our daughter went to bed at the usual time and slept all night. In the morning she looked rather unsightly with scabs over the bites, but she had no discomfort and was very cheerful.
Three days later, while preparing her for the evening meal, her mother, having forgotten the incident, inadvertently drew a washcloth across the child's face. The scabs came off, leaving her skin perfect, without the slightest mark. For this demonstration of the healing power of Truth, we are unceasingly grateful.
Words cannot express our appreciation of Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, and of Mrs. Eddy, who labored so long and unselfishly to give the truth to all mankind. For membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, for a small part in the Christian Science movement, and for the privilege of class instruction, I am also exceedingly grateful.— Houston, Texas.
