It is with sincere and heartfelt thanksgiving for Christian Science that I relate some of the experiences in our home in which the application of this scientific law of God has restored health, harmony, and supply, corrected faults of character, and guided us in the straight and narrow way of Truth over a period of more than thirty years.
At the time of our introduction to this Science my husband and I were living on a farm in western Canada, with five young children to support, and facing a problem common to many in the 1930's. We had reached an extremity of discouragement, doubt, and hopelessness from which there seemed to be no escape. It is only fair to say that our creditors had been more than patient, but we could see no way of meeting our obligations.
We had recently met some new friends, and we learned they were Christian Scientists. They did not discuss their religion, but we loved to be with them very much. One evening in their home my husband suddenly said: "I know you people are Christian Scientists. I don't know a thing about Science. Would you please tell me what it is?" They explained very simply that it was in accord with the First Commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me" (Ex. 20:3). Then our attention was directed to the first chapter of Genesis, in which we are told that God made man in His image and likeness and that He "saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good" (verse 31).
