The passing on of my mother some years ago led me to a very earnest search for the truth. At that time I went from one church to another, listening intently to the services, always hoping to catch a gleam of real comfort. At length, almost despairing of ever finding the answer to my prayer, I found myself at a Christian Science service. Right there and then a new and wonderful experience began. Familiar Bible verses, when read from the desk in conjunction with correlative passages from the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, began to take on new meaning for me. After three years of study I was fully convinced that Christian Science is the Comforter promised by Christ Jesus, and I became a member of a branch church and also of The Mother Church.
Soon after this our younger son became ill with a condition which had been medically diagnosed as bronchial asthma. He had been subject to this from babyhood, and now, at the age of thirteen, he was again experiencing this difficulty, which presented itself at the beginning of the school year, keeping him out of school and in bed a good part of the time. Now that I had taken my stand for Christian Science, and since our son had been attending a Christian Science Sunday School, I saw very clearly that the time had come to rely on God for this healing. My husband had always had a kindly feeling toward Christian Science and gave his wholehearted permission for me to get in touch with a practitioner.
The practitioner reassured me of the Father's tender care for His children, gave me several passages from the textbook to study, and agreed to help us through prayer. As the day wore on I grew more and more fearful, however, until that evening I called the practitioner again. She detected the great fear in my thought and said she would work for me to help dispel this fear.
