WHENCE COMEST THOU?

From the September 1965 issue of The Christian Science Journal

WHEN understood in the light of the teachings of Christian Science, the origin of man—the image and likeness of God—is seen to have no connection with theories regarding the origin of a material man existent in matter.

In reality man is not made up of material elements, nor has he developed from a human embryo. He is entirely spiritual, an idea in divine Mind; he is not striving towards maturity but is always a complete idea, harmoniously governed by God's laws. So-called laws of heredity have no effect upon him. In fact, there are no such laws.

Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health(p. 63): "In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry. His origin is not, like that of mortals, in brute instinct, nor does he pass through material conditions prior to reaching intelligence. Spirit is his primitive and ultimate source of being; God is his Father, and Life is the law of his being."
