Christian Science came to me when I prayed for the understanding of how Jesus healed. I was a member of an orthodox church and had relied on medicine all my life. My father was a doctor, my mother had been a nurse, and I had been a premedical student for a time, hoping to become a medical artist. That was my ideal of service to mankind.
However, I was to learn that the highest art is that of spiritual healing. I also learned that, as Mary Baker Eddy states in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 104), "The medicine of Science is divine Mind."
I prayed for a higher understanding after I left the hospital for the last time. I had been ill and in almost constant pain over a period of five years, the last year and a half of which had been spent in semiinvalidism
