The truths and lessons learned through a Christian Science healing remain to bless us always. Some twenty years ago our young daughter tripped over a step, striking her mouth against the tile floor. I picked her up and held her as I sang Mrs. Eddy's hymn, '"Feed My Sheep,'" so loved by children and adults alike. It contains this prayer to God (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 304):
So, when day grows dark and cold.
Tear or triumph harms.
Lead Thy lambkins to the fold,
Take them in Thine arms.
Almost at once the child's crying ceased, and she was quietly listening. Soon she slipped down from my lap and toddled off happily. The incident was forgotten until several days later when we noticed that two of her front teeth were very dark. At this point I became alarmed and filled with self-condemnation because I felt I had not sufficiently protected her at the time of the fall.
