Christian Science came to me at a time when I was extremely depressed and fearful and growing more and more embittered and resentful over discordant and very difficult relationships, prolonged illness in the home, and an increasing sense of lack. I was in despair; I no longer knew what to do.
I started reading the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and attending the services at a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. I was sustained at the passing of my husband and enabled to take many wise steps concerning my home, my employment, and the proper care of a dear little daughter.
In the Lord's Prayer are these words (Matt. 6:11): "Give us this day our daily bread." Mrs. Eddy interprets them thus (Science and Health, p. 17): "Give us grace for to-day; feed the famished affections." To human sense the child and I were completely alone, since our only relatives lived thousands of miles away; but the heavenly bread fed us all along the way.
