I am deeply grateful for Christian Science and its merciful message to mankind. As a young adult I found myself in a very unhappy situation and unhealed of a displaced spinal disk after more than a year of medical treatment. Turning to God in prayer, I asked to be led to a group of people whose religion was a simple, pure following of Christ Jesus' teachings, if such a group existed in today's world. The next day I was told about Christian Science by a friend at work and soon began to read the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
Joy filled my consciousness as the truth of what I was reading dawned on me. Glimpsing the majesty of divine Principle and feeling the love shining through the pages, I came to page 287 and the question, "How can there be more than all?" I saw that there was no need to believe in the pain as something real, something that could hurt me. The following morning I wakened completely well.
Some twelve years later the same difficulty returned, and the healing had to be claimed and proved. This was achieved through the work of a devoted Christian Science practitioner. The lesson I had to learn is contained in these words from page 183 of the textbook: "Divine Mind rightly demands man's entire obedience, affection, and strength. No reservation is made for any lesser loyalty." As the significance of this passage unfolded, human will began to be replaced with the spiritual effort required to break through the dream of materiality and to "seek. . .first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness" (Matt. 6:33). The inspired words of Psalm 23 were thus understood (verse 3), "He restoreth my soul."
