From the December 1968 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have never ceased to be grateful to the friend who introduced my husband and me to Christian Science. I was always fascinated when this friend talked about God, but it did not occur to me to investigate this religion. About four years later I became ill. My husband took me from one doctor to another until I landed in a clinic, where I was informed that all that could be done for me had already been done.

One afternoon I felt so weak and discouraged that my whole life seemed useless. In my despair I turned to God in the best way I knew and asked Him to take me out of this misery. To my greatest surprise, the words "The Lord is my shepherd" (Ps. 23:1) came to my thought and stayed with me for the rest of the day. In the evening I talked with our friend and decided to rely on Christian Science for healing. The next morning I disposed of all medication and made an appointment with a Christian Science practitioner. The healing was slow, but it came. Many fears and faulty character traits had to be overcome, and during this time I was also healed of the smoking habit and of social drinking.

When I was again able to work, I found a part-time job which afforded me enough time to continue my extensive study of Christian Science. I spent every free moment studying and pondering because I wanted to understand this precious, and to me, completely new religion. A whole new world had opened up to me.
