The Psalmist had a clear conviction of the ever-presence of God when he wrote (Ps. 46: l), "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." That this refuge and strength is always available to each and every one of us has been proved in the life of many a Christian Scientist.
After the birth of our second child I began to evidence an alarming physical problem. The obstetrician who had delivered the baby said it was the result of an injury to the sciatic nerve. At the same time I manifested a severe emotional upset. The world seemed bleak, and there was little happiness in what should have been a joy-filled household. I was sent from one specialist to another. Extensive tests were run, but they could offer no help.
My husband was most compassionate and patient with me during those months. Finally when all other methods had failed, he asked if I would please let him call a Christian Science practitioner. I asked him to do so, and after he called, we went to see her. She spoke to me about the false mortal belief that nerves are messengers and told me that the only real messages are from God, divine Truth and Love, and that I didn't have to receive any unwanted messages.
