The truth of a statement by Mrs. Eddy has been brought home to me many times ( Science and Health, p. 454): "Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way."
Through my childhood and early teens I had a great dread of financial lack. The study of Science and Health, begun in my late teens, healed me of this fear, so much so that during my entire working career, including the depression years, there was only one period, lasting about eighteen hours, when I was without employment.
In 1929, while serving as vice-principal of a public school in a small city in Alberta, I felt impelled to apply for membership in the nearest branch Church of Christ, Scientist, located in another city forty-five miles distant. I had never lived where church membership was possible. Although I had neither a car nor a prospect of getting one, it was clear to me that I should apply. Admission to membership followed.
