I had been a sufferer for seventeen years, never free from pain. I had had a number of doctors, one after another. Because I could not get relief, it was ordered that I have an operation. I did not know which was the worse, leaving my two children or going through with the operation, so I wrote to a cousin in another town asking her to accompany me to hospital. She wrote back right away telling me to please stay the operation till she came, and to know there is only one operator and that is God.
It seemed hard to ignore the doctor's order, but I did. My cousin came and took me to a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and introduced me to a loving practitioner. I obeyed all that was asked of me. I got the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. One passage stood out to me (pp. 214, 215): "Spirit's senses are without pain, and they are forever at peace."The prayerful work went on for six weeks.
Then one Sunday morning I got up early, although it seemed a struggle. My husband said, "What did you get up for?" I said, "I'm going to church." He replied, "You can't go in your state." But I felt so sure of God's guidance in taking this step that I answered, "I'm going, if I drop on the way." To my amazement, I felt a little strange and found all the pain had left me, and there has been no return.
