Full Employment

From the December 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Perhaps someone has lost his job because of technological change or economic conditions. Or maybe he is struggling to make ends meet in low-paying, unsatisfying work that does not give him a sense of being fully useful. To him, Christian Science brings a healing message of hope and the promise of a brighter future starting today.

In this divine Science of the Christ, or Truth, true employment means expressing and employing the spiritual qualities of man's Maker, God. Because our true being is the spiritual man made in God's image and likeness, we are always fully employed by the only real employer we have, our Father-Mother God, divine Principle.

If we are not actively expressing in our daily lives the qualities of Christ, the true idea or manifestation of God, we are woefully unemployed, even though we may hold a high-paying job. Security, income, progress, and satisfying activity depend on spiritual understanding and on the practice of Christlike qualities. These qualities are expressed in human experience as honesty in business transactions and advertising, efficiency in manufacturing goods and providing services, unselfishness in labor and management dealings, sobriety and dedication, and loyalty to one's employer or employees. They include courtesy and respect toward others regardless of the color of their skin.
