The Feelings of Soul

From the December 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Feelings are strong these days—feelings of apprehension for the future; feelings that alienate and estrange, peculiar to the generations; feelings of racial bitterness. Whatever the cause appears to be, emotions of remorse or resentment, fear or frustration, hurt or hatred, if long indulged, can rob us of our natural good natures, our health, and our purpose. However, upon awaking to the spiritual fact that all have, in reality, an eternal heritage of good, and seeing evil as outlawed by the allness of good, we gain forgiveness and freedom for ourselves and others. Being certain of God's constant love for us, His gift of constant good, we can feel inward assurance and joy.

When we have disturbed feelings, let us immediately claim the presence of God to help, just as did the Psalmist who affirmed: "Thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy."Ps. 16:10, 11;

For our own purposes let's expand this promise to read: God, Soul, will not leave me with a material sense of existence, neither will the pure senses of Soul, as I reflect them, permit me to experience evil. I am ever capable of perceiving and feeling God's good. Thus Soul shows me how to claim a heavenly life, for I am ever conscious of it and continually feel the God-created heavenly good.
