Church in Action

Youth committees: bringing people together

From the January 1972 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Young people today are seeking serious involvement with a movement that's going somewhere. The Church of Christ, Scientist, is spearheading the most progressive movement on this planet: the movement to wake men up to the spiritual truth of being.

Obviously, youth needs this kind of a church as much as this kind of a church needs youthful thought. And yet there has sometimes been a lack of communication and understanding between youth and adults in churches. Youth have sometimes drifted away from Sunday School or church, and adult members have often wondered why.

Perhaps that is why many Churches of Christ, Scientist, are finding youth committees so valuable at this time. Far from being "just another program for kids," it's something that can bring people together and bless the whole church. When a youth committee works the way it should, youthful enthusiasm, openness, and spontaneity blend with adult wisdom, dedication, and experience, and the product is a church that's more alive, better balanced.
