"Church of the new-born"

From the January 1972 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It was a great occasion for the young Christian Church when, in one day, three thousand people were converted to the faith and became members.

On that day of Pentecost, Peter preached to a large crowd in Jerusalem, and he so eloquently described Christ Jesus' God-inspired mission that his listeners' hearts were deeply touched. When he concluded, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins," Acts 2:38;Acts 2:38; many of these people responded and were received into the spiritual community.

The Church of Christ, Scientist, like the early Christian Church, thrives on repentance—the giving up of false material belief —and on the healing that accompanies spiritualization of thought. It is the church of the mentally regenerated and physically healed. For its strength and growth it depends largely on the conversion of mankind—conversion from belief in matter and false, materialistic values to the understanding of celestial being that is created, maintained, and satisfied wholly by Spirit.
