Some years ago a mental condition developed...

From the May 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Some years ago a mental condition developed in me to the extent that I believed I was to be killed by associates in the office where I worked. New employment I had taken about a year earlier had proved to be unsatisfactory in a material way. The business encountered financial difficulties, and the pressure for the success of the business enveloped me to the extent that I found myself in this precarious nervous condition. The fear was overwhelming!

I was in this state of mind for some two weeks before I called on a Christian Science practitioner. I was at my extremity, but this proved to be God's opportunity.

During this series of events, I hired a detective to look after me. One night, in desperation, he checked me into a hotel and requested me to stay there until morning. The extremity of my fear was such that I found myself in a hotel room expecting the door to be forced open at any moment and my life taken. It was three o'clock in the morning when I turned to God in prayer for deliverance from my dilemma. I resolved to call a Christian Science practitioner the first thing in the morning, if I lived through the night. God heard my prayer. "For your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him" (Matt. 6:8). Immediately I fell asleep, awakening approximately four hours later as refreshed as if I had slept the whole night.
