The following testimony is related for...

From the May 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The following testimony is related for those who wish to be free from bodily problems of weight and shape. My wife had been gaining weight and finally was unable to ascend or descend stairs in a normal manner. Along with this problem were fears of falling. Although she was not excessively overweight, the effort to walk briskly had also become a problem.

Realizing that something should be done at once, she took up a systematic study in the Bible and writings of Mrs. Eddy of man as God-created. Each subject relating to man as a perfect spiritual idea was studied until that subject seemed to have been covered completely. For example, the subject of food alone took considerable time because we are admonished by Christ Jesus in Luke to "take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat" (12:22). The subject of food and calories is constantly brought to our attention, but in Christian Science we learn we must obey the law of God as taught by Christ Jesus.

Closely allied to this subject is that of false appetites and the belief that food makes one fat. The temptation to overeat, or to eat between meals, becomes very great to many people. An understanding of the nothingness of false appetites is the only way to destroy the temptation. In Science we learn that Mind governs man and food has no power to hurt or help.
