When studying the lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly entitled "God the Preserver of Man," I am reminded of many instances in my family when God was indeed the preserver of man. I would like to relate one such instance and how trusting God, the strong deliverer, brought the healing.
When my son was eight or nine years old, he occasionally went with his father to his father's tractor factory. On this occasion he found a very large, heavy tractor wheel leaning against a wall. A slight push unbalanced it. It fell over, pinning him beneath. Workers at the factory lifted the wheel part way, only to have it fall back on him. They believed the injury to be fatal. His father brought him home, holding him over his shoulder. He told me that a doctor had been called to come to the home. My reply was that we did not need a doctor because God was our ever-present help. Very soon the doctor's sister called to tell us that the doctor was out on a case and couldn't come.
Besides other injuries, there were fractured ribs and severe injury and a deep wound to the head. The wounds were cleansed without medication.
