I was brought into Christian Science as a young child when I was in need of healing for a serious eye condition. Kindly neighbors, observing my parents' discouragement, introduced them to Christian Science. They were open enough to receive it and began attending church services. All medical treatment for my eyes was discontinued. Within a short while the eye problem was completely healed through prayer. As a result I have always loved Christian Science.
I am grateful to my parents for bringing me up steadfastly in this teaching—a priceless gift that will ever be with me.
Early in my marriage and shortly after what had seemed a defeat in my career in the theater, I began having sudden and frequent attacks during which I lost consciousness and upon awakening would realize that I had been through some severe struggle. At the time it was terrifying to me, and to my husband, who was a new student in Christian Science.
