The Children's Room

From the March 1974 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For several days before a young mother was to serve in the Children's Room in The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, her little son was quite ill. The suggestion came to ask to be relieved of her duties. Then she recalled that, as part of the Church, the Children's Room was a healing activity. She knew she and her child would be blessed through her serving and his participation in the happy atmosphere. By Wednesday evening the child's condition had so improved that they were both able to be at the Church, and the following day the healing was complete.

When the members of a children's room committee glimpse something of the healing activity of their work and give it prayerful support, they find joy and inspiration. Greater harmony is expressed, and, of course, the children respond.

More than a convenience to parents while they attend the church services, children's rooms can prove the healing usefulness of Church. When established on a spiritual foundation, they can fulfill the mission of Church in elevating humanity. Their objective is to express the love of the church for the children and to provide a constructive atmosphere in which children can develop until they are ready to attend Sunday School, and perhaps also to appreciate a testimony meeting.
