Through the enlightenment of spiritual wisdom we grow in inspiration. But a merely intellectual thought process could deprive us of this inspiration. When we have reached the stage of spiritual enlightenment, we will be less eager to arrive at right conclusions only through scholastic knowledge or intellect. Intellect without inspiration can obscure spiritual wisdom.
How do we acquire spiritual wisdom? By subordinating mere material knowledge to spiritual inspiration—the love and joy which come from communion with God. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health: "If materialistic knowledge is power, it is not wisdom. It is but a blind force. Man has 'sought out many inventions,' but he has not yet found it true that knowledge can save him from the dire effects of knowledge."Science and Health, p. 196
