Christian Science has changed my whole life for the better; I could not imagine existence without it.
During the First World War, I was employed in a canteen for needy children. I was not familiar with this work and was clumsy. As I pulled a large hot baking pan from the oven, it began to slip out of my hand. I supported the pan with my right arm, not thinking that it was, of course, very hot. In an instant the arm was burned from the wrist to the elbow —one big blister.
At that time I knew only a little about Christian Science, but was intensely enthusiastic. I immediately thought of God's love, which fills and surrounds me, and from which accident and pain are excluded. I carefully rolled down the sleeve of my work uniform, spoke with no one about it, and withdrew to pray. Nor did I mention the incident when I got home. I held fast to the thought that pain is not a part of true being. That evening the arm was still very red, but the following morning it was completely well. That was my first demonstration of spiritual healing, which filled me with a marvelous sense of happiness and gratitude.
