For several years prior to my turning to Christian Science I sought help from many medical doctors for the alleviation of a combination of illnesses, which included low blood pressure, anemia, hormone deficiency, and severe headaches. The medical profession held no hope that I would be healed; and without healing, my successful career as a singer would be over.
Even when I began to look for help in Christian Science, I still found it hard to believe that prayer alone could heal me. A deep sense of depression began to envelop me, but then this Bible statement came to thought (Gen.1:27): "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him." The same chapter states that man was given dominion. In Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy we read (p. 516): "Man, made in His likeness, possesses and reflects God's dominion over all the earth."
I reached out to God in faith, determined to trust Him all the way. Spiritual understanding came. I saw that no suggestion of bodily malfunction could interfere with or obstruct the harmony of God's perfect, harmonious idea, man—my true identity. A complete healing followed. This passage from Science and Health was certainly proved true in my healing (p. 162): "The effect of this Science is to stir the human mind to a change of base, on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind."
