Church in action News and Announcements

CHURCH. The structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle.

The Church is that institution, which affords proof of its utility and is found elevating the race, rousing the dormant understanding from material beliefs to the apprehension of spiritual ideas and the demonstration of divine Science, thereby casting out devils, or error, and healing the sick.

—Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 583).

How church members responded to 'Operation Drug Alert'

From the May 1975 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Within 24 hours they were ready.

Just the day before a ten-hour "Operation Drug Alert" was to take place in their community, members of a branch church in the state of Washington felt impelled to participate. They were motivated, they report, by Mrs. Eddy's statement: "Practice not profession, understanding not belief, gain the ear and right hand of omnipotence and they assuredly call down infinite blessings."Science and Health, p. 15

The community event was staged to inform primarily young people of the danger of drug abuse and of the help available to them. Nearly 7,000 attended. Sponsors welcomed the presentation of Christian Science, saying, "There will be people coming who are looking for just such an answer."
