States and Stages of Thought

From the May 1975 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Sacrifice, coincidence, dominion: three seemingly unrelated words that might indicate something like loss, luck, and human control.

When seen in spiritual perspective, however, each of these states of thought is recognized as desirable. They are a natural sequence through which thought passes in Christian Science as it attains an indestructible peace.

Sacrificing erroneous, mortally oriented concepts allows room for realization of man's coincidence with God, which in turn brings dominion and calm. This can take place any time, in any situation, and in any place when spiritual motives are strong and clear. First, and perhaps hardest to admit, is the need for sacrifice.
