Christian Science was presented to me about fifty years ago. I was visiting relatives who had just begun its study, when my first child became ill with a high fever. My stepmother asked if I would like her to call a Christian Science practitioner to pray for the child. I gladly accepted her offer, and the child was healed. This healing seemed wonderful to me, and I was very grateful.
My stepmother then presented me with a copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, with the request that I read it through when I returned home. After I finished reading it, I understood very little of it. Later, however, I realized that the glasses which I had just been told to wear continuously for astigmatism were misplaced; they were no longer needed, for my eyes had been healed. Also, I realized that I had spent that entire winter free of the regular attacks of tonsillitis and catarrh, which had formerly confined me to bed each year. These early healings proved to be permanent.
I began to study alone and was able to meet all the daily problems and so-called children's diseases through my own prayer and study with occasional help from letters from home.
