Organizing committees making plans for the 20 Regional Youth Meetings to be held worldwide this yearThe Christian Science Journal, March, 1975, pp. 176-178 will likely be impressed and inspired by some of the good healing work that took place in Uruguay two years ago. The following are excerpts from the organizing committee's report.
"We were to receive [in Montevideo] young people from all parts of Latin America at a time when our country was going through a political and social crisis. We were faced with a number of problems, including stoppage of public services such as transportation, mail, banking, and so forth—as well as a lack of food and fuel, and violent encounters between workers, students, and law-enforcement officials.
"As you can appreciate," the report continues, "we thought that this was not the most appropriate setting for holding our meeting. Lack of mail service made it virtually impossible to communicate with The Mother Church or with other Latin American countries. We didn't know how many young people would be attending and would need to stay with different families. In turn, the majority of the families here didn't have transportation or food to offer. The work stoppage, too, it impossible for the adequate completion of our meeting site, which was still under construction.
