CONSOLATION

From the May 1976 issue of The Christian Science Journal

There is no need for sorrow or despair
When someone loved has vanished from our sight.
In our true home there is no empty chair,
No darkness in God's universe of light.

We need not stand forlorn upon the shore,
Bemoaning joys that never can return.
Our Father-Mother has a boundless store
Of blessings—that blind grief will not discern.

True love, outpouring, does not pass away,
But grows, develops, and remains to bless
Ourselves and others, as we learn each day
To share that love that lightens all distress.

Indeed, we're only true to those we love
(And thought we'd lost) when our affection grows
Away from selfish grief, and soars above,
Encompassing the world and all its woes.

The dear companion will be dearer yet
When we perceive him as the loved of Soul,
And human ties will merge without regret
In that pure Love divine that makes us whole.

There is no loss when we have truly loved:
The Christ is with us, our forever friend.
We journey on till error is disproved
And death dissolves in Life that has no end.
