God has a definite purpose for each one of us

Branch Church Regeneration

From the May 1976 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Members of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, may sometimes feel there is a deep need to inspire commitment to regeneration within their membership. It's a good thing for the member to renew his efforts in support of his church, to gather fresh energies. We realize, often with a start, the need to live more purposefully, less selfishly, more in accord with the healing power of divine Love, as our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, did in following Christ Jesus.

Increased spiritual understanding that approaches theirs—that's what we need to activate branch church regeneration. We need an ever-clearer apprehension of the nature of God, the all-wise, all-loving Mind—His all-presence, His infallible laws, His good will for man. And we need to know man better, the man God made, the man God knows, the man we really are, made in God's own image. When we refresh our concept of another, see him as he really is in truth, we appreciate his efforts more, support him, respect him more. Then, truly, regeneration is going on within us.

The regenerative power of divine Love, active within the thought of each church member, radiates its warmth throughout the entire atmosphere of the branch church. It attracts others, welcomes and comforts them. The power of Love, when understood and affirmed through prayer, heals, blesses, and encourages. Our prayers help inspire the steadfast worker, the newcomer, the seasoned member, the hesitant stranger. This power of powers works silently, successfully. It impels the church member to listen more attentively than before to Mind's direction, respond more willingly to Love's correction.
