Christian Science explained
Many quotations found in articles in this magazine are from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. This book contains the full statement of Christian Science. It's translated into thirteen languages. You can purchase a copy at a nearby Christian Science Reading Room. It's available in English in an inexpensive paperback edition. Or you can usually borrow a copy from a local public library. If you wish, you can order direct from Miss Frances C. Carlson, Publisher's Agent, One Norway Street, Boston, MA, U.S.A. 02115.

Planning a trip to Boston?
You may wish to include visits to two of Mary Baker Eddy's former homes:
1908-1910 CHESTNUT HILL, MASSACHUSETTS—At 400 Beacon Street, Mrs. Eddy's home when she founded The Christian Science Monitor. An exhibit traces her role as Founder and Leader of our movement—preaching, teaching, writing, and commenting on issues still current.
Open May 1 through October 31, 10 to 5 weekdays (including Saturdays), 2 to 5 Sundays; November 1 through April 30, 10 to 4 Saturdays only, 2 to 5 Sundays; closed all holidays except Memorial Day (last Monday in May) and Bunker Hill Day (June 17).
1875-1882 LYNN, MASSACHUSETTS— At 12 Broad Street, where 100 years ago Mrs. Eddy completed her manuscript for Science and Health. It was while living here that Mrs. Eddy initiated many foundational steps in establishing the Christian Science movement. These include the formation of the Christian Scientist Association; the Church of Christ, Scientist; the Massachusetts Metaphysical College. Here also Mrs. Eddy was ordained as Pastor of her church.
Open May 1 through October 31, 10 to 5 weekdays (including Saturdays), 2 to 5 Sundays; November 1 through April 30, 10 to 3 Saturdays only, 2 to 5 Sundays; closed all holidays except Memorial Day (last Monday in May) and Bunker Hill Day (June 17).
The map "Mary Baker Eddy and New England" gives further information on these and other historical sites, all within a day's drive of Boston. This map is available at the historical houses, at the information desk in the Publishing Society, and also by mail from the Archivist of The Mother Church.

To find a care facility
No need to be at a loss in finding a care facility for Christian Scientists. The Christian Science Board of Directors has provided several avenues for obtaining this information.
The Department of Care accredits sanatoriums, nursing homes, rest homes, and homes providing special attention— each with nursing care available.—when they have met the standards for nursing care established by the Board of Directors.
Information on these care facilities is available from:
—Christian Science Reading Rooms (addresses only)
—Clerks of branch churches or societies (addresses and rates)
—The chairman of a branch church committee for care (addresses, rates, and services)
—And (usually) a local telephone directory (addresses only).
Often a committee for care might also be helpful in learning about unaccredited care facilities for Christian Scientists.
And, of course, the Department of Care of The Mother Church is happy to answer inquiries about nursing care for Christian Scientists.

If you'd rather think of us oftener . . .
Only one annual communication from each member is asked for in the Church Manual by Mrs. Eddy. That's the per capita tax she describes in Article VIII, Section 13. But there's nothing that says you can't be in touch with the Treasurer more often!
Many members, in the light of present Church needs, have decided to make regular monthly contributions. Some of them write to tell us how pleased they are to be caring for The Mother Church in this way, and that they wish all members could know a similar satisfaction.
Your monthly gifts, even small ones, help immeasurably in making the flow of income steadier and more predictable, and are welcome assurances of continuing love and support. The current list of funds includes:
General Purpose Fund
Fund for The Christian Science Monitor
Charitable Institutions Fund
Relief Fund
Fund for Developing Areas
Your contributions may be addressed at any time to:
Marc Engeler, Treasurer The First Church of Christ, Scientist Christian Science Center Boston, MA, U.S.A. 02115
How to join The Mother Church
Sincere students of Christian Science are encouraged to join The Mother Church. It can be an effective way of expressing gratitude for healing, and an important next step in your continuing growth in Christian Science.
You may obtain an application from any Christian Science Reading Room, branch church or society, or from a practitioner listed in the Directory at the back of this Journal. Or you may write directly to George W. Ledbetter, Clerk, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Christian Science Center, Boston, MA, U.S.A. 02115.
For admission in June, applications should reach Boston by May 1; for admission in November, applications should be received in Boston by October 1.
More helpful testimonies
It's inspiring to learn how Christian Science heals. That's why it's so important for those submitting testimonies for use in the periodicals to include a fuller explanation of what brought about the healing—in terms a newcomer to Christian Science can understand.
If you've had a convincing physical healing through total reliance on God in Christian Science, we would like to encourage you to share some of the truths that inspired you. What we need is a clear, reader-oriented explanation of the change of thought that accompanied the healing.
Helpful suggestions for writing your testimony and specific instructions for submitting it (together with necessary verifications) are contained in our pamphlet, Guide to Writing for the Periodicals. If you would like a free copy, please write to:

Those who write articles and poems for the Journal, Sentinel, and Herald—as well as religious articles for The Home Forum page of the Monitor—must be members of The Mother Church. But you need not be a member to submit a testimony of healing in Christian Science. Testimonies are welcomed not only from members but from those who haven't yet joined The Mother Church.
All contributions accepted for publication become the sole property of The Christian Science Publishing Society.
