To find a care facility
No need to be at a loss in finding a care facility for Christian Scientists. The Christian Science Board of Directors has provided several avenues for obtaining this information.
The Department of Care accredits sanatoriums, nursing homes, rest homes, and homes providing special attention— each with nursing care available—when they have met the standards for nursing care established by the Board of Directors.
Information on these care facilities is available from:
—Christian Science Reading Rooms (addresses only)
—Clerks of branch churches or societies (addresses and rates)
—The chairman of a branch church committee for care (addresses, rates, and services)
—And (usually) a local telephone directory (addresses only).
Often a committee for care might also be helpful in learning about unaccredited care facilities for Christian Scientists.
And, of course, the Department of Care of The Mother Church is happy to answer inquiries about nursing care for Christian Scientists.
Two new publications
Six preschoolers—Joey, Courtney, Trudy, Kristi, Davie, and Mamie— show how their understanding of the Ten Commandments healed skinned knees, a common cold, and mean thoughts. A delightfully illustrated leaflet, the reprint, These are the Ten Commandments, teaches small children how to apply each commandment to their own experience.
The Seeing Eye and The Hearing Ear debunks the impersonal lies behind faulty vision and impaired hearing. Two articles, "The Hole in the Needle" and "The Hearing Ear," are featured in this pamphlet. Both the leaflet, 15¢, and the pamphlet, 50¢, are available at Christian Science Reading Rooms or may be ordered direct from The Christian Science Publishing Society, One Norway Street, Boston, MA, U.S.A. 02115.
Answers to today's problems
Mary Baker Eddy established five different periodicals to aid students of Christian Science in their search for Truth. Each of them has a unique role, and each is indispensable to spiritual growth and the application of Christian Science in today's world.
THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE JOURNAL—thoughtful, pertinent articles on metaphysics for individual spiritual study, plus examples of church in action, news, and announcements—Monthly in English; $14 a year, $7 six months, $1.25 a copy.
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE SENTINEL—fresh, uplifting, easy-to-read articles and testimonies relevant to everyday needs— Weekly in English; $17.50 a year, $8.75 six months, 50¢ a copy.
THE HERALD OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE—timely, inspiring articles geared to the needs of areas where English is not the principal language—Monthly in French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish; each edition $7 a year, 75¢ a copy. Quarterly in Danish, Dutch, Greek, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Swedish; each edition $2 a year, 50¢ a copy. English Braille, Grade Two, published quarterly; $1 a year, 25¢ a copy.
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE QUARTERLY—enriching Bible Lessons for daily study that help one to better understand the Scriptures—Quarterly in English, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Indonesian (available in Indonesia only), Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish; each edition $2.50 a year, 75¢ a copy. Readers' size, $3 a year, $1 a copy. In English-Braille, Grade Two, with all citations from the Bible and Science and Health written out in full; $2.50 a year (12 issues), 25¢ a copy.
THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR (daily edition)—a world-respected international newspaper that gives clear, concise news coverage and exposes problems that need healing solutions; daily, Monday through Friday, except legal holidays, in English; available to subscribers worldwide; $40 a year, $36 nine months, $24 six months, $12 three months, 25¢ a copy. A 25 percent discount is available for schools, teachers, full-time college students, clergymen, members of the armed services on extended active duty, and individual members of the Peace Corps.

Are you almost 12 years old?
... if you are, maybe this would be a good time to think about joining The Mother Church. When Jesus was 12, his parents found him in the temple eagerly talking with the learned men, "both hearing them, and asking them questions" (Luke 2:46).
Mary Baker Eddy knew that boys and girls of 12 could know and love Truth and want to join with others who are practicing it. So she provided in the Church Manual (Art. IV, Sect. 3) the opportunity to join at age 12. If you would like to find out what it means to be a member of The Mother Church, why not study the Manual and perhaps ask your Sunday School teacher or a Christian Science practitioner about it? They can answer your questions and give you an application to fill out if you'd like one.
(If you're over 12, you may obtain an application form from any Christian Science Reading Room, branch church or society, or Christian Science practitioner listed in the directory at the back of this Journal. Or you may write directly to George W. Ledbetter, Clerk, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Christian Science Center, Boston, MA, U.S.A. 02115.)
For admission in June, applications should reach Boston by May 1; for admission in November, applications should be received in Boston by October 1.
Special rates for students
This is the time of year when many young people find themselves away from home for the first time, on their own at a university or college preparatory school. It's a time when many parents like to be reminded that a 25 percent discount is offered on subscriptions to the Journal, the Sentinel, and the Monitor.
Any one—or all—of these periodicals could provide just that bit of needed support in the students' new adventure. To qualify for the student rate—whether you are giving a subscription as a gift or ordering for yourself—simply indicate "student" on the subscription order and specify which university or college preparatory school. Subscriptions may be placed through your Reading Room, your Circulation Representative, or ordered directly from The Christian Science Publishing Society, One Norway Street, Boston, MA, U.S.A. 02115.
A special fund—a special opportunity
Not long ago we opened the Fund for The Christian Science Monitor—a fund which gives new occasion to members and friends to express their love for the newspaper Mrs. Eddy founded.
By giving to this Fund, you can contribute directly to the Monitor's well-being during an important period of its growth. You can further the improvements in the paper's design and content and help it to attain a stronger financial position. In this way you can have a special part in its progress and fulfillment.
Often, when a special opportunity like helping the Monitor appears, the Treasurer makes it known by establishing such a special fund. Watch the funds being mentioned in the Treasurer's communications in the Journal, the Sentinel, and the Herald, and you'll know where your love and support are most needed. The current list of funds includes:
General Purpose Fund
Fund for The Christian Science Monitor
Charitable Institutions Fund
Relief Fund
Fund for Developing Areas
Contributions may always be sent to:

Tours of the Church Center
Visitors to the Christian Science Center may take guided tours of the Extension and the Original Edifice, the Sunday School building, and the Publishing House.
Regular tours of The Mother Church are offered daily including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays (on Thanksgiving Day tours are from 12 to 1 in The Mother Church only; on December 24, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day there will be no tours). Tours of the Christian Science Publishing House are conducted Monday through Friday. The Mapparium in the Publishing House is also open Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays (except Thanksgiving, December 24, Christmas, and New Year's Day). Tours of the Church Administration building are given Monday through Friday at 1 p.m. (except holidays).
Christian Scientists and their families visiting the Church Center are encouraged to make the Visitors' Tour Center in the Publishing House their first stop. The hostess there can provide you with up-to-the-minute tour schedules, information that may not have been published yet in the Journal, access to areas that may not be open to the general public, translators if needed, and make arrangements for tours for those needing special consideration.

Planning a trip to Boston?
You may wish to include visits to two of Mary Baker Eddy's former homes:
1908-1910 CHESTNUT HILL, MASSACHUSETTS—At 400 Beacon Street, Mrs. Eddy's home when she founded The Christian Science Monitor. An exhibit traces her role as Founder and Leader of our movement—preaching, teaching, writing, and commenting on issues still current.
Open May 1 through October 31, 10 to 5 weekdays (including Saturdays), 2 to 5 Sundays; November 1 through April 30, 10 to 4 Saturdays only, 2 to 5 Sundays; closed all holidays except Memorial Day (last Monday in May) and Bunker Hill Day (June 17).
1875-1882 LYNN, MASSACHUSETTS—At 12 Broad Street, where 100 years ago Mrs. Eddy completed her manuscript for Science and Health. It was while living here that Mrs. Eddy initiated many foundational steps in establishing the Christian Science movement. These include the formation of the Christian Scientist Association; the Church of Christ, Scientist; the Massachusetts Metaphysical College. Here also Mrs. Eddy was ordained as Pastor of her Church.
Open May 1 through October 31, 10 to 5 weekdays (including Saturdays), 2 to 5 Sundays; November 1 through April 30, 10 to 3 Saturdays only, 2 to 5 Sundays; closed all holidays except Memorial Day (last Monday in May) and Bunker Hill Day (June 17).

Christian Science explained
Many quotations found in articles in this magazine are from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. This book contains the full statement of Christian Science, it's translated into 14 languages. You can purchase a copy at a nearby Christian Science Reading Room. It's available in English in an inexpensive paperback edition. Or you can usually borrow a copy from a local public library. If you wish, you can order direct from Miss Frances C. Carlson, Publisher's Agent, One Norway Street, Boston, MA, U.S.A. 02115.
More helpful testimonies
It's inspiring to learn how Christian Science heals. That's why it's so important for those submitting testimonies for use in the periodicals to include a fuller explanation of what brought about the healing—in terms a newcomer to Christian Science can understand.
If you've had a convincing physical healing through total reliance on God in Christian Science, we would like to encourage you to share some of the truths that inspired you. What we need is a clear, reader-oriented explanation of the change of thought that accompanied the healing.
Helpful suggestions for writing your testimony and specific instructions for submitting it (together with necessary verifications) are contained in our pamphlet, Guide to Writing for the Periodicals. If you would like a free copy, please write to:

Those who write articles and poems for the Journal, Sentinel, and Herald—as well as religious articles for The Home Forum page of the Monitor—must be members of The Mother Church. But you need not be a member to submit a testimony of healing in Christian Science. Testimonies are welcomed not only from members but from those who haven't yet joined The Mother Church.
All contributions accepted for publication become the sole property of The Christian Science Publishing Society.
