Christian Science Is Spiritual, Not Merely Intellectual

From the September 1976 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Getting the most out of one's study of Christian Science involves recognizing and demonstrating its spiritual nature. Because the Science of Mind-healing is concerned with thought, and is therefore a scientific method of mental healing, it is sometimes mistaken for a merely intellectual system. Christian Science, however, is spiritual. Its premise and promise is the eternal fact that God is Spirit, and therefore His creation, including His image, man, is spiritual. Furthermore, the demonstration of this scientific Christianity is found in not merely accepting these truths but in proving them.

Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, the Christian Science textbook: "Spiritual understanding unfolds Mind,—Life, Truth, and Love,—and demonstrates the divine sense, giving the spiritual proof of the universe in Christian Science.

"This understanding is not intellectual, is not the result of scholarly attainments; it is the reality of all things brought to light." Science and Health, p. 505;
